If you’ve been trying to achieve your ideal physique but can’t sculpt some stubborn areas of fat in the way you’d like, you may wonder what your options are.
Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that uses suction to remove targeted portions of fat around areas that store fat deposits, such as your stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and neck. Not only can this cosmetic procedure remove the fat, but it can also shape and smooth the areas it’s targeting.
At Ayewah Aesthetics in the Midtown West neighborhood of New York City, New York, board-certified cosmetic surgeon Martha Ayewah, DO, and our team offer a cutting-edge type of liposuction called VASER® liposuction.
We discuss in this blog how VASER liposuction works to give you your desired body shape.
All varieties of liposuction have the same general idea. During liposuction, fat cells are broken apart and removed from your body. However, there are several different methods for breaking apart these fat deposits. Some techniques use water or lasers, but VASER liposuction utilizes pulsing ultrasound waves.
With VASER liposuction — an acronym for vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance — the heat from the ultrasound waves breaks up the fat cells while also tightening the skin. VASER is incredibly precise and ensures that the fat deposits get eliminated while preserving all the surrounding healthy tissues and blood cells.
Because VASER liposuction is so precise, it minimizes discomfort and reduces the amount of downtime and recovery.
Before you can get VASER liposuction, Dr. Ayewah will discuss your goals with you. It’s important to note that VASER liposuction isn’t a weight loss tool, so you should be within 15 pounds of your goal weight to be considered a candidate. You also can’t smoke or have a history of bleeding disorders to get the procedure.
We can schedule your cosmetic surgery if Dr. Ayewah determines that VASER liposuction is a good fit for you. We begin the liposuction by administering anesthesia. Dr. Ayewah then makes a few incisions in the treatment area before inserting a tube to break down the fat with the ultrasound waves. The heat liquifies the fat, and Dr. Ayewah suctions it with a cannula.
Surgery length varies depending on how large the treatment area is and how many fat deposits there are. You can go home after completion of the procedure; however, you need to wear compression garments while the swelling around the treatment area subsides.
