Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable wrinkle-reducing medication that addresses dynamic wrinkles or those caused by repetitive expression. Lines become etched into your skin whenever you smile, frown, or squint. Botox is a derivative of a neurotoxin that temporarily halts muscle activity in the areas responsible for these wrinkles so your face softens and wrinkles ease.

Where can Botox be used?

The FDA approves Botox for cosmetic use:

  • Around the eyes (the crow’s feet)
  • Between the eyebrows (worry lines or the 11s)
  • Along the forehead (horizontal lines)

How soon will I notice the effects of Botox treatment?

You’ll begin to notice changes in the look of your wrinkles after 24-48 hours. Optimal results can be seen in about seven days. If you have questions about your treatment or the effects, be sure to contact Ayewah Aesthetics right away.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

Botox and other wrinkle-reducing treatments like Dysport and Xeomin provide temporary results that last 3-4 months. Exactly how long you see a benefit depends on your personal metabolism and the extent of wrinkling.

To maintain the effects of your Botox injections, return to the office for repeat treatments on a regular schedule.

What is it like to get Botox injections?

Your entire treatment session lasts just 15-20 minutes. After Dr. Ayewah cleanses your face and identifies the right muscles for injection, she uses a fine needle to apply the Botox.

You’ll feel a slight pinch during each needle prick, but most people find the process quite tolerable. If you’re concerned about the sensations, talk to Dr. Ayewah about topical numbing cream or ice before treatment.

Do I need to schedule downtime following Botox treatment?

Botox is known as a lunchtime treatment. You can return to work or other daily activities following your session. Even exercise is OK following Botox injections.

Some people experience slight bruising, swelling, or pinpoint redness at the site of the injections, but these effects fade quickly.

If you’re ready to experience the effects of Botox for yourself, call Dr. Ayewah at Ayewah Aesthetics to set up an appointment or use the online tool to schedule.
